The London Hawk Lords nipped the Detroit Iron Gloves 6 to 5 at the ballpark in
a hard fought contest.
London had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 8th inning scoring 3
runs using 2 hits. Carlos Pena got things going when he hit a single. After
an out was recorded, Cristian Guzman came up and he drew a walk. Carl
Crawford then drew a walk to load the bases. Johnny Damon followed and he
banged out a single driving home two runs. Damon took second on the throw.
Mark Kotsay struck out, unable to help the rally. Ivan Rodriguez did his
part to keep things going and was walked intentionally to load the bases.
Adam Laroche stepped into the batter's box and he drew a walk scoring the
final run of the inning. Detroit threatened in the 9th but London was able
to put down the rally.
Justin Duchscherer(1-0) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the win.
Keith Foulke earned his 6th save. The loss was charged to Ugueth Urbina(0-1)
in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up 1 hit and 3 walks.
Rob Danecker was beaming after the game, 'Not only were we making good
contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love winning
these tight ones! It was just our day - no doubt about it!'
